Kongoussi Producers

Burkina Faso - Agricolture

The Loulouka-based Wend Songda Association (AWS) was created by 33 groups of producers, whose members total 730 people. They grow white sorghum and millet, sesame, beans and watermelons during the rainy season. During the dry season, instead, they grow vegetables such as string beans, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, peppers, and eggplants. Their cultivation methods are strictly natural and organic.
White sorghum and millet are the cereals making up the basic ingredient in the diet of the growers’ families; the remaining quantities are sold on the domestic market. During the rainy season, around the homes and in the fields, millet is grown in association with oseille de Guinée (Hibiscus sabdarifa), also known as bissap. The petals of this flower are used to make a traditional beverage.
