Belarus’ beekeepers are joined in the association The Belarusian Bees, based in the capital Minsk. This has an important role in organizing fairs and circulating information on the qualities and properties of the country’s honey. The community too is based in the centre of the country, where the vast plains give both lime-blossom and poly-floral honeys. For some, beekeeping forms the principal source of income, for others it sidelines livestock and crop farming. The association has published the book His Highness Honey, is also organizing training courses for young beekeepers and elaborates informational material for both producers and consumers. Sales of honey take place via private contacts or at markets and the income supplements the finances of the local farming families.
